Desktops
Schools, call centers and environments with desktops that are routinely shared by many people are susceptible to changes and viruses on the desktop. netBoot/i can operate in 2 modes: 1 unique boot volume per machine, or 1 boot volume shared among multiple machines. Shared boot volumes are unchangeable (read-only) by the end-user. Instead of re-imaging a hard drive, a simple reboot of the desktop will return the machine to a pristine state.
Desktops and laptops - and their data - are susceptible to theft. Booting the operating system over the network centralizes all data storage and management. Theft of desktops and laptops no longer means loss of critical data stored locally.
Replacing failed hard drives is time consuming and costly. IT staff no longer need to visit desktops to replace hard drives. Desktops can be quickly booted from backup boot volumes located on the SAN. The operating system and all end user applications are run on the client machine providing a true "thick" client – without the requirement for a hard drive.
