Dimond Center Hotel Increases System Security and Application Up-Time Using Existing Desktops with SimplyRDP Thin Client Software
Dimond Center Hotel’s (Anchorage Alaska) employees need to access business critical applications for tasks such as booking rooms and point of sale. When a desktop needs maintenance it translates to poor customer service due to delays and increased expenses for the hotel. Dimond’s top priorities are to reduce security threats from viruses, reduce ongoing desktop maintenance costs and improve system uptime.
Dimond’s IT reseller, Network Business Systems (NBS) was asked to find a solution without incurring the additional expense of new hardware thin clients. Network Business Systems chose to deploy SimplyRDP thin client software to existing desktops. Using existing desktops, instead of buying new thin client hardware was just one benefit which saved Dimond Center Hotel a considerable amount of money.
Each desktop PC is now able to run business critical applications directly from a centralized Windows 2003 server. End users see the same Windows XP-style desktop they are familiar with, and the added advantage that IT administrators can pre-approve which applications are able to run for each user. Access to applications such as internet web browsers, instant messengers and media players can be easily restricted. SimplyRDP can be configured to deny access to local devices such as floppy and CD Rom drives, thus enhancing system security.
