emBoot Expands the Enterprise Capabilities for its iSCSI SAN Boot Solution for Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 and Windows Server code name "Longhorn"

winBoot/i(TM) v2.0 Delivers SAN Boot With Enhanced Centralized Management and Improved System Availability - Using Standard Network Interface Cards

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, April 17, 2007 -- emBoot Inc., an industry pioneer in delivering network boot capabilities, today announced the general availability of winBoot/i v2.0, its next-generation iSCSI boot solution for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 and the forthcoming Windows Server code name "Longhorn." winBoot/i provides a centrally managed SAN Boot solution using standard Ethernet network adapters that allows customers to accelerate server deployment and repurposing, reduce lifecycle operating costs, reduce power and cooling requirements, improve system resiliency and availability and implement more robust disaster recovery solutions.

New functionality in winBoot/i v2.0 includes:

  • Multiple iSCSI targets (10) assignable to a winBoot/i client:
    • Available as user selectable boot menu, with automatic boot to default
    • Available as failover should first or subsequent iSCSI targets not be
      accessible
  • Multi-path to different targets during the initial boot strap and Windows boot
  • Bundled winMigr8(TM) migration utility for moving boot images from physical to a virtual machine or physical server and back
  • New client discovery
  • Auto-querying of up to three sources for boot parameters (client configurations) during the boot sequence

"The ability to boot Microsoft Windows Server from iSCSI storage using standard NICs is driving the adoption of iSCSI storage in Windows environments," said Bala Kasiviswanathan, director of branch and storage solutions at Microsoft. "We look forward to working with emBoot under the iSCSI Software-Enabled Boot Initiative as they continue to deliver additional advanced iSCSI boot functionality to Windows users."

"At this point in the deployment lifecycle for our iSCSI Boot solution customers are no longer asking 'Does it work?' but instead want to know 'Will it scale for my organization?'," said George Kostiuk, CEO of emBoot Inc. "With the release of winBoot/i v2.0, we are delivering additional enterprise-class functionality that leaves no doubt that our solution, and the benefits it delivers, will scale to provide value across any size organization."
